In conventional silk production, the silkworm pupa is killed inside the cocoon before the silk is reeled. In Ahimsa silk, the moth is allowed to complete its metamorphosis and emerge naturally — and only then is the empty cocoon harvested for its silk.

Because the moth emerges through the cocoon, the silk fibers are naturally broken into shorter lengths. Rather than being reeled into a continuous filament, these shorter fibers are hand-spun into a beautiful, textured yarn.
